Frequently Asked

What is a Bengal cat?

A bengal cat is a domesticated cat with the look of a wild cat. Bengals were originally bred from the pairing of an Asian Leopard Cat and a domestic cat.

Are Bengal cats hypoallergenic?

Bengals are considered a hypoallergenic breed but that only means you are less likely to have reactions. Severity of the allergy to bengals is based upon each individual.

What testing does KSBengals do on their breeding cats?

All of our breeding cats are tested thru Optimal Selection. That test covers PRA-B and PK-D, and many other genetic diseases and traits. We also have them HCM screened regularly by a board certified cardiologist. Our cats are tested FIV/FeLV negative.

What is PRA-B?

Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) causes an autosomal recessive blindness in Bengal cats by destroying the cells in the back of the eye that register light.

What is PK-D?

Erythrocyte pyruvate kinase deficiency (PK deficiency) is an inherited hemolytic anemia caused by insufficient activity of its namesake regulatory enzyme.

What is HCM?

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a disease in which the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick (hypertrophied). The thickened heart muscle can make it harder for the heart to pump blood. By testing our breeding cats we can help decrease the chances of breeding affected cats by removing those cats from our breeding program that are found to have HCM.

Is a Bengal cat right for me?

Bengals are an amazing breed. They are very smart, active, and social cats. They need lots of attention and things to keep them busy. If you're looking for a cat that just lays around and looks pretty then this is not the cat for you.

Do I need to get on a waiting list?

The best way to get your desired kitten is to get on the waiting list. Kittens are made available to those on the waitlist first in order they are received. Contact me for more information about getting on the waitlist.

Do I need to put a deposit down?

Once a kitten is chosen a deposit must be made to hold that kitten until it is ready for it's new home.

What will come with my new kitten at time of pick-up?

Kittens come TICA litter registered, current on vaccinations and deworming, vet checked, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and come with a health guarantee included in the signed contract. Your kitten will also go home with some toys and a blanket that have smells he or she will recognize which will help in adjusting to their new home.
